How To Feel Perfectly Relaxed When You Release Control
I had an interesting experience recently: taking my hands off the steering wheel while driving a Tesla. It freaked me out so much I had to hold my hands in a βcircleβ around the wheel. After a few fretful minutes, I relaxed and put my hands down into my lap. I allowed the car to turn, stop, and go around curvesβ¦by itself.
The application to my life was immediate! What if I allow the invisible hand of God to be totally in charge while I release control?
Try these βauto-pilotβ spiritual techniques:
Remember that either God has it or you have it!
Only one person can drive a car at a time.
When the Bible says, βCasting your cares on Himβ (1 Pet. 5:7), it is really God saying, βIf you have it, I donβt have it.β
βCastβ is a term for βthrowingβ (think βcastingβ rod). You have to take your problem and βthrowβ it to God. Once you βthrowβ it to the Lord, donβt play βpitch and catch!β
You cannot βcommitβ and βpull backβ at the same time.
In golf or baseball, they say, βCommit to the shot.β That means to never βstop in the middle.β You cannot be tentative in a swing, you have to release the swing.
SWING FREE. The Bible says it this way: βCommit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.β (Ps. 37: 5).
If you can trust Him with your eternal destiny, you can certainly trust Him with small needs in this life.
Pass up every golden opportunity to worry!
Worry is a sin just like lying. It is a statement that God is not able to handle your situation. βCan God spread a table in the wilderness?β (Ps. 78:19) was the question that got Israel in so much trouble with God.
βGOD CAN.β He is able. The scary thing is that we do not know when βGOD WILL!β If you are tempted to worry, stop right there and remind the Lord that what you have given over to Him is now HIS department.
The βprayer of committalβ pleases God.
Doesnβt it bother you when you assure someone you will take care of something and then see them taking care of it on their own?
God has promised to βsupply all our needsβ (Phil. 4: 19). God has promised to βnever leave us or forsake usβ (Heb. 13:5). God has promised that βwhatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yoursβ (Mark 11:24).
Right here, right now, commit your problem, your circumstances to the Lord. Leave it there (donβt go back and get it!). Start thanking Him in advance because your heavenly Father cares more for you than the little birds that He regularly feeds.
Take your hands off the βwheelβ of your life and put them in your lap. He can drive better than you.
